Velux Electrics installs high-efficiency reverse cycle air conditioning systems — replacing gas ducted heating with a single system that heats and cools your home, year-round, for a fraction of the running cost. Government rebates up to $7,200 applied upfront.
Here's a number most Victorian homeowners don't know:
Heating accounts for up to one third of your entire household energy bill.
If your home runs on gas ducted heating, you're paying the highest energy cost per unit of warmth available — and with Victorian gas prices at record highs in 2026, that gap is widening every single winter.
The alternative — a modern reverse cycle air conditioner — delivers 3 to 4 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity used. Gas heaters, even the best models, convert only 80–92% of fuel into usable heat. That's before flue losses.
This isn't a small improvement. It's a different technology entirely.
And the Victorian Government is currently offering up to $7,200 upfront to make the switch.
WHAT IS REVERSE CYCLE AIR CONDITIONING?
A reverse cycle air conditioner doesn't generate heat — it moves it. In winter, it pulls warmth from the outside air and transfers it into your home. In summer, it reverses the process and pushes heat out.
That's why it's so efficient. Moving heat costs far less energy than creating it through combustion.
What you get with reverse cycle:
Heating AND cooling — one system, all seasons, no separate units.
Up to 75% less energy used for heating versus gas ducted systems.
No gas line — runs entirely on electricity, compatible with rooftop solar.
WiFi control — set schedules, zones, and temperatures from your phone.
Cleaner air — no combustion, no fumes, no carbon monoxide risk.
5-year warranty — minimum on all VEU-approved units

Indicative figures. Actual savings vary by home size, usage, and electricity tariff.
The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program provides an upfront discount on the cost of replacing your gas or inefficient heating system with a high-efficiency reverse cycle air conditioner.
The discount is not a cashback. It is applied at the point of installation — you pay the reduced price on the day.

Rebate amounts are based on current VEEC values and system size. Your exact figure is confirmed at quote stage.
Replacing a single gas space heater → save up to $460/year on running costs.
Replacing a whole-home ducted gas system → save up to $1,140/year on running costs.
Homes with gas ducted heating spending $1,500–$2,500/year can cut that bill by 60–75%
At $1,140/year in savings, your investment pays for itself — then keeps paying.
Systems up to 10kW: minimum customer contribution $200.
Systems over 10kW (multi-head and ducted): minimum customer contribution $1,000
No installation under the VEU program is free. Any company advertising a completely free system is either misrepresenting the program or cutting corners elsewhere. We don't do either.
You're eligible if:
You're a Victorian homeowner, renter, or business.
You're replacing an existing gas heater OR an inefficient existing air conditioner.
You install an approved high-efficiency reverse cycle unit that provides both heating AND cooling.
Your property is at least 2 years old (for replacement of existing systems).
Your system is installed by a VEU-accredited provider (that's us)
You are eligible. Landlord consent is required. We can advise on how to approach this conversation.
Eligible with a valid ABN. Both small and large commercial premises qualify.
The VEU program requires you to replace an existing heating or cooling system — not install a brand new system where none existed. If you're upgrading from nothing, a reduced discount may still be available. We'll confirm at quote.
Most companies doing VEU work are here for the rebate cycle. Velux Electrics is here because this is what we do quality electrical work, done right, backed by government compliance.
A-Grade Licensed Electricians — Not Subcontractors
Every installation is completed by our own licensed A-Grade electricians under Energy Safe Victoria regulations. Not a subcontractor. Not a trainee. Our team.
VEU-Accredited Provider
We are fully accredited under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program. That means we can process your rebate on your behalf — you don't deal with the paperwork, the government, or the forms. We handle it.
Certificate of Electrical Safety — Every Job
Every installation comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety (CoES). This isn't optional — it's the law. And it's proof that your upgrade was done properly, not just done fast.
Specialise in VEU Work
We're not a general electrician that occasionally does rebate jobs on the side. VEU rebate installations — heat pumps, reverse cycle, induction — are our core service. We know the program, the eligibility criteria, and how to maximise your outcome.
Don't Disappear After the Job
Your rebate doesn't end at installation. If there are warranty issues, compliance questions, or follow-up work needed — we're still here. Same team. Same contact.
Fill in our short form. We'll confirm whether your property and existing appliances qualify under the VEU program — in minutes, not days.
We assess your property, confirm which rebates you're eligible for, and give you an exact cost including all discounts applied upfront. No surprises.
Our A-Grade electricians complete the installation. We issue your Certificate of Electrical Safety and submit all rebate paperwork to the VEU on your behalf.
You just enjoy the lower bills.
Yes. Modern reverse cycle systems are designed to operate efficiently at temperatures down to -15°C. Melbourne's winter lows rarely drop below 3–5°C. You will not lose performance on cold days.
Yes. Removing your gas heater does not require you to disconnect your entire gas supply. You can retain gas for other appliances (e.g. cooktop). However, removing gas completely eliminates your daily gas supply charge — an additional saving of $200–$400/year depending on your retailer.
Yes — a reduced VEU discount is available when upgrading an existing inefficient reverse cycle system to a high-efficiency model. The rebate is not as large as a gas-replacement, but it is still available. We'll confirm the amount at quote.
No. The VEU program does not allow free installations. Minimum customer co-payments of $200 (under 10kW) or $1,000 (over 10kW) are required. Any company advertising a "free" air conditioner under VEU is either misrepresenting the program or hiding costs elsewhere. Be cautious.
In most homes, yes — and often more efficiently, because you only condition the rooms you're using. Ducted systems heat every room whether it's occupied or not. Multi-head with zone control gives you more precise control over where your energy goes.
Your rebate is applied as an upfront discount — you pay the reduced price on the day of installation. There is no waiting for reimbursement. We submit the VEEC documentation on your behalf post-install.
No. We handle the entire rebate process — product registration, VEEC assignment forms, and submission to the ESC. You sign where required. We do the rest.
Yes. Private rental properties are eligible under the VEU program. We recommend landlords and tenants discuss and agree on the upgrade before proceeding. We can assist with communication if needed.
Velux Electrics will confirm your eligibility, stack every rebate available to you, and complete the installation to the highest compliance standard — so you get the savings, the certification, and the peace of mind.
