You're Paying Too Much to Heat Water You Can't Even See.

Your gas or old electric hot water system is burning money every single day. The Victorian Government will pay you up to $1,960 to replace it with a heat pump — and Velux Electrics handles the entire process from installation to rebate lodgement.

Here's What Your Current Hot Water System Is Actually Costing You

Hot water heating accounts for 15–30% of your home's total energy use.

If you're running a gas hot water system — or an old electric storage tank — you're paying some of the highest energy costs in your home, every single day, without thinking about it.

The worst part? You don't have to be.

The Victorian Government created the VEU program specifically to help homeowners like you replace these systems — and they're offering thousands of dollars to make the switch easier.

Most people never claim it. Not because they don't qualify. Because they don't know, or they can't find a company they trust to do the job properly.

Velux Electrics is that company.

WHAT IS A HEAT PUMP HOT WATER SYSTEM?

Think of It as a Fridge — Running in Reverse

A heat pump hot water system doesn't generate heat. It moves heat from the surrounding air into your water tank — the same way a reverse cycle air conditioner moves warm air out of your home in summer.

That process is dramatically more efficient than burning gas or using an electric heating element.

The result:

  • Uses up to 3x less energy than a traditional electric storage system.

  • Uses up to 4x less energy than a gas hot water system.

  • Compatible with rooftop solar — run it during the day and your hot water costs can drop to near zero.

  • Fully electric — no gas line required after installation

Figures are indicative estimates. Actual savings vary by household usage, tariff, and system size.

Up to $1,960 Off.

From Two Government Programs. Stacked Together.

Rebate 1

VEU Discount (Victorian Energy Upgrades)

The VEU program provides an upfront discount on your installation applied at the time of purchase, not reimbursed later.

How it works: Your installer (that's us) generates Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs) for the upgrade. The value of those certificates is passed directly to you as a price reduction.

  • Available for replacing gas OR inefficient electric storage hot water systems.

  • Discount applied upfront — you pay less on the day.

  • Velux Electrics processes all VEEC paperwork on your behalf

Rebate 2

Solar Homes Hot Water Rebate

A separate Victorian Government rebate specifically for eligible owner-occupiers upgrading to a heat pump or solar hot water system.

  • Up to $1,000 off the purchase price (50% rebate, capped at $1,000).

  • Up to $1,400 if you choose an eligible locally-made hot water product (from July 2025).

  • Eligibility criteria: owner-occupier, combined taxable income under $210,000, property value under $3 million

Do You Qualify? Most Victorian Homeowners Do.

You're likely eligible if:

  • You're a Victorian homeowner or renter.

  • You currently have a gas hot water system — OR an old inefficient electric storage system.

  • You want to replace it with an approved heat pump unit.

  • Your property has a standard single-phase 220–240V electricity supply.

You may not qualify if:

  • Your property already has a heat pump or solar hot water system installed

  • Your existing system was installed purely for the purpose of decommissioning it under the VEU program (scheme integrity rules)

Why Victorians Trust Velux Electrics With Their Rebate Installation

Most companies doing VEU work are here for the rebate cycle. Velux Electrics is here because this is what we do quality electrical work, done right, backed by government compliance.

A-Grade Licensed Electricians — Not Subcontractors

Every installation is completed by our own licensed A-Grade electricians under Energy Safe Victoria regulations. Not a subcontractor. Not a trainee. Our team.

VEU-Accredited Provider

We are fully accredited under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program. That means we can process your rebate on your behalf — you don't deal with the paperwork, the government, or the forms. We handle it.

Certificate of Electrical Safety — Every Job

Every installation comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety (CoES). This isn't optional — it's the law. And it's proof that your upgrade was done properly, not just done fast.

Specialise in VEU Work

We're not a general electrician that occasionally does rebate jobs on the side. VEU rebate installations — heat pumps, reverse cycle, induction — are our core service. We know the program, the eligibility criteria, and how to maximise your outcome.

Don't Disappear After the Job

Your rebate doesn't end at installation. If there are warranty issues, compliance questions, or follow-up work needed — we're still here. Same team. Same contact.

STILL NOT SURE?

Common Questions From Homeowners

Will a heat pump work in Melbourne's cold winters?

es. Modern heat pump units are designed to operate efficiently in Melbourne's climate. Units installed under the VEU program are tested and approved for Victorian conditions, including cooler winter temperatures.

Can I use my existing plumbing?

In most cases, yes — though some modifications may be required. We conduct a site inspection before quoting to confirm this. You'll know exactly what's involved before we start.

What's the minimum I'll pay out of pocket?

Under VEU rules, the minimum customer contribution for residential hot water upgrades is $200 (incl. GST). Your final cost will depend on the product selected, your location, and which rebates you stack. We'll give you the exact figure in your quote — before you commit.

Can I still get the rebate if my hot water system has already broken down?

Yes. If your system has broken down or is unsafe, you do not need to wait for eligibility confirmation before proceeding. We can install immediately. You must prove eligibility as soon as possible after installation to receive the rebate.

What happens to my old system?

We decommission and dispose of it safely and in compliance with EPA waste management requirements. This is a mandatory part of the VEU process — the old unit is disabled so it cannot be reinstalled.

Is the heat pump compatible with my solar panels?

Yes — and this is one of the best combinations available. Running your heat pump during daylight hours using solar energy can reduce your hot water running costs to near zero. We can advise on optimal timer settings for solar households.

How long does installation take?

For most residential properties in metro Melbourne, installation is completed within 1–2 business days. Emergency replacements can often be done same-day.

What if I rent the property?

Renters can be eligible for VEU discounts — however the Solar Homes rebate is available to owner-occupiers only. If you're a renter, we'll confirm exactly what you can access before any work begins.

Stop Paying Gas Prices to Heat Water.

The Government Will Help You Change That Today.

Velux Electrics will confirm your eligibility, stack every rebate available to you, and complete the installation to the highest compliance standard — so you get the savings, the certification, and the peace of mind.
